According to recent ICO research many public sector organisations still have significant preparations to make before GDPR comes into effect in May 2018 in order to be compliant with the new rules and regulations

37% of councils in the UK do not have a data sharing policy.

15% of UK councils do not train employees who process personal data.

25% of councils do not have a data protection officer.

17% of ICO casework was raised from central government departments in 2016/17.

Only 2% of self-reported breaches came from government departments.

41% of self-reported breaches in 16/17 came from the health sector.

12% of ICO complaints came from the health sector.
